An Anti-Plastic Book Has Been Sold Wrapped In Plastic
A book about how to shrink our plastic waste production has been shrink-wrapped in plastic by a distributor.
The book titled ‘No.More.Plastic’ is by British author Martin Dorey, an anti-plastics expert, who has been working to save our beaches from plastic for the past 10 years.
Martin Dorey is the brain behind Two Minute Beach Clean (#2minutebeachclean), an initiative to inspire all that use the beach to spend 2 minutes protecting the thing they love.
Dorey has vented on Instagram, posting a photo of the wrapped book.
“So, here’s my book. We toiled hard on this. We worked with the printer to make it one of the most environmentally friendly books this year. And then this.”
Martin Dorey stated, “It makes me very sad indeed that we are so clever, but so stupid." He described the decision by a US distributor “an absolute shambles".
“I know my publishers are working hard to stop this in future, but it still happens further down the line," stated Mr Dorey.
According to the BBC, Publishes Penguin is contacting distributors of the book in the US to cease using the plastic covering.
A spokesman from Penguin said, "I hope...this image makes people stop and think as we head into a busy Christmas period.”
Mr Dorey said, "we need to understand that this is not good enough."
We worked very hard to ensure our book was environmentally friendly at every stage of the book process
"The point is that this book is about no more plastic and some idiot shrink-wrapped it in plastic without thinking.”
"This highlights brilliantly the over-use of plastic in our everyday lives and I hope the small positive is that this image might make people stop and think, as we head into a busy Christmas period of shopping and wrapping."
