PETA Says Cow's Milk Is A Symbol Of White Supremacy

Controversial animal activist group PETA has claimed cow's milk is a symbol of white supremacy.

The group claim it has found another reason why drinking milk is "wrong".

"The 'White Stuff' isn't the right stuff," PETA wrote on Twitter.

In their latest press release, the group likens dairy farming to rape and also claimed people who drink cow's milk are deliberately inflicting violence on others.

"Aside from 'lactose-tolerant' white supremacists, cow’s milk really is the perfect drink of choice for all (even unwitting) supremacists, since the dairy industry inflicts extreme violence on other living beings," the PETA press release reads.

"Rape is perhaps the single most heinous crime involving both power and violence. But it’s standard procedure in the dairy industry. Like all mammals, cows produce milk only during and after pregnancy, so roughly every nine months, cows on dairy farms are forcibly impregnated so that their milk production will continue."

A recent New York Times article addresses origin behind the idea that milk is a symbol of white supremacy.

Genetically, the gene that allows the processing of lactose turns off after childhood, but thousands years ago there was a random mutation in Europe that left it turned on.

This gave people the ability to process lactose in adulthood and therefore, genetic superiority.

These people then lived longer than those who couldn't process lactose and so eventually, almost everyone alive could tolerate lactose to some extent.

As this bit of genetic evolution occurred in Europe, the ability to process lactose as an adult became traditionally attributed to people of European backgrounds.

Back in 2017, group of white men protested Shia LaBoeuf's anti-Trump installation in New York by gathering to drink milk in front of it. This move was said to show off their 'superiority' by being about to digest the lactose in the white drink.

Unfortunately, white Europeans aren't the only group that developed the lactose-tolerant gene. In fact, a similar gene mutation occurred in cattle breeders in East Africa.

This means that some African people are also capable of digesting lactose and thus appears to debunk the theory that drinking milk is simply a white supremacist thing.

People responded on Twitter to the PETA press release, with the vast majority calling the claim that cow's milk is a symbol of white supremacy a stretch of the truth.
