Aretha Franklin Laid To Rest In A Gold Plated Casket

Dressed in vibrant red in a gold casket, The 'Queen of Soul' is laid to rest.

Dressed in red and surrounded by flowers, Aretha Franklin is a queen. Even in death.

Her 14-carat-gold plated casket is on display at the Museum of African American History in her home town, Detroit. Her name is embroded in gold metallic thread over her and the words ' Queen of Soul' beneath it.

Hundreds of fans lined up outside the museum to pay their respects to Franklin on Tuesday and the casket will remain open until Wednesday evening local time.

Franklin's funeral will be held in Detorit on Friday. All the funeral arrangements have been made by her family, not by Franklin herself.

Aretha Franklin died nearly two weeks ago from advanced pancreatic cancer. She won 18 Grammy Awards for her music that also earned her a Grammy for lifetime achievement and the title the 'Queen of Soul'.

Her family described her passing as heartbreaking.

"We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds," they said in a statement.
