Qantas Flight Forced To Return To Auckland After Smoke In Cabin

The flight has landed safely after smoke in the cabin from a faulty oven.

A Sydney-bound Qantas flight has been forced to turn back to Auckland after smoke began pouring out of a faulty oven.

The plane made an emergency landing and touched down safely, and was escorted to the terminal by emergency vehicles.

“Engineers have inspected the aircraft and identified a fault with one of the ovens in the forward galley,” Qantas said in a statement.

Flight QF144 has now resumed its trip to Sydney after a 40 minute delay, and is expected to arrive at 3.30pm.

"We'd like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding and we aim to have them on their way to Sydney as soon as possible," the airline said.
