Gold Coast Star Ash Taylor In Major Pre-Season Setback

Exclusive: One of the season's biggest stars has gone under the knife before the season.

Gold Coast Titans halfback Ash Taylor has been ruled out of the NRL All Stars match to be held at AAMI Park in Melbourne on February 15.

Taylor, 23, had an arthroscope on his shoulder on Wednesday.

The injury was picked up late last year and rehab proved unsuccessful, so the decision was made to go under the knife.

Recovery is thought to be 3-4 weeks, meaning he will likely be available for the Titans' final trial match against the Broncos on March 2. The NRL season starts on March 14.

Taylor is widely thought to be a long-term future Queensland Origin halfback, despite being overlooked for Daly Cherry-Evans in the 2018 series.

Meanwhile, Titans coach Garth Brennan said he supported the decision to have the surgery done now.

"Whilst it's not the perfect time to have it done, it's obviously better than him carrying the injury throughout the season," Brennan said.

"He definitely could've played with the shoulder concern but it's better to have him going at 100 percent when the season kicks off."
