Search Suspended For Missing Plane With Premier League Player Onboard
Premier League club Cardiff City player Emiliano Sala was onboard a private plane which is now missing.
Sala boarded the Piper Malibu on Monday evening from France bound for Cardiff, but disappeared off Alderney in the Channel Islands.
Cardiff Airport confirmed it was expecting an arrival from Nantes, but it did not arrive.
Despite not being in the U.K. search and rescue area, HM Coastguard had sent two helicopters to assist.
"HM Coastguard helicopters from Solent and Newquay have been helping to search overnight with nothing found," a spokesperson said.
Cardiff City announced its record $27,000,000 signing of the Argentine striker on Saturday and is now "seeking clarification" on the plane's disappearance.
It is reported the club holds "genuine concern" for the safety of Sala.
On the same day as he boarded the plane, Sala posted a photo to Instagram saying goodbye to his former teammates at French club FC Nantes.
Speaking of his transfer to the Bluebirds, Sala said it brought him "great pleasure".
"I can't wait to get to work straight away and do everything I can."
He is due to report to Cardiff City training grounds on Tuesday local time.
