Socceroos Captain Mile Jedinak Announces International Retirement
Mile Jedinak has today announced he will be officially retiring from international duties.
Jedinak took to social media to make the announcement, and said his time as a Socceroos had made him "incredibly proud and thankful".
"The countless unbelievable moments that I have experienced will stay with me forever, and I can honestly say that looking back I’ve had some of the best times of my life on the pitch playing for the Socceroos," he said.
"I gave everything I had in every single game I played to try and achieve success for our nation. "
He said the decision was made to prolong his football career and focus on his club, Aston Villa.
Jedinak has represented Australia 79 times, including captaining the team to an AFC Asian Cup title in 2015.
Scoring 20 goals for his country, he became a legend after firing Australia into the 2018 World Cup with a hattrick against Honduras in the last round of qualifications last year.
The Socceroos will play their first match without Jedinak in just two weeks, against Kuwait.
