Secret Magpie Spy Invades Tigers Training
Those dastardly Magspies will stop at nothing.
The Richmond Tigers trained today at their Punt Road home ahead of Friday's Preliminary Final against Collingwood, and fans turned out in their thousands.
Pretty much everyone and their pet tiger was there.
As the players took to the field for a light training run, an unwelcome guest descended. Was it a spy sent by Eddie McGuire?
If the avian impostor was sent to gauge the fitness of Tigers superstar Dustin Martin, then it needn't have bothered.
Martin trained in skins, which added an element of intrigue, but the 2017 Norm Smith and Brownlow medalist is sure to play, according to Tigers premiership player Shane Edwards.
"He’s all right, he just had a corkie, he trained fine today so yeah, he’s raring to go," Edwards said.
"He’ll be going out there with a fresh mind and he’ll be ready to go."
The Tigers have beaten the Magpies in both games this year, but as Edwards pointed out, both encounters were super competitive and the football world expects nothing less on Friday night.
"They've improved since then but we've improved as well," Edwards said.
This is the first time since 2011 that two Melbourne teams have faced off in a Prelim.
There were major ticketing issues earlier in the week because Richmond and Collingwood have 100,000 and 75,000 members respectively, and many fans who have attended every home game this season were unable to secure tickets.
That's a problem the NRL can only dream about ahead of its Preliminary Finals this weekend.
