Sydney FC Sign Dutch International Star
It's been a big transfer season for the A-League, and Sydney FC has joined in on the fun.
While the Central Coast Mariners have stolen all the headlines with Usain Bolt, the Sydney FC have signed a player who has actual history in the game.
Dutch player Siem de Jong is on his way Down Under for a season-long loan at the Sky Blues.
After a disappointing semi-final exit last season, Sydney will be hoping the attack-minded de Jong can bolster their midfield in their hunt to return to the top of the A-League.
“I’m very excited to be representing Sydney FC this season and I’m looking forward to my time in the A-League,” de Jong, who has has earned himself six caps for the Netherlands, said in a statement.
“I see a lot of similarities between Sydney FC and Ajax, they’re both leaders in their league with a reputation for silverware and I want to uphold that here."
The 29-year-old has been a stalwart in European soccer since he made his debut for Dutch club Ajax in 2007, playing against the best in the world in the Champions League and Europa League.
He made a Premier League move in 2014 to Newcastle United for three seasons until a loan move to PSV Eindhoven.
Last year he returned to Ajax for season before joining Sydney FC this season.
