A Kangaroo On The Loose In Austria Is Ruining The National Tourism Slogan
It's an All Aussie Adventure.
A kangaroo on the loose in northern Austria is continuing to evade local authorities, despite being spotted by nearby residents on several occasions in recent days.
The Aussie local was spotted in a meadow by an Austrian family who couldn't believe they were seeing a "real, live" kangaroo hopping freely at the edge of the forest in the small village of Kirchschlag.
"We thought: 'No, this is really real' - and it then hopped a bit over the meadow and then moved away from the road towards the forest," Ruth Kastner told national radio station ORF .
"It sounds unbelievable but it's true," a local police officer told Agence France-Presse.
"We have called all the zoos and kangaroo breeders around us, but no-one is missing a kangaroo. We hope the owner will come forward."
Skippy was caught in action again over the weekend by Thomas Kaufmann in a video uploaded to social media, which shows the mystery marsupial hopping through an open field.
The incident has undoubtedly exposed the Austrian tourism industry to a raft of criticism, with it's iconic "No Kangaroos in Austria" slogan, now proven to be false advertising.
While it's yet unclear where the roaming roo came from, this isn't the first time Skippy has misread the road signs and ended up in the land-not-so-down-under.
In 2015 there were reported sightings of another mysterious marsupial. It turned out the Kangaroo culprit at the time had escaped from Germany.
So it just goes to show, Aussies are never ones to Skip-py out on an All Aussie Adventure.
