‘It’ll Be A Not Guilty Plea’ Says Jarryd Hayne’s Lawyer

Jarryd Hayne got out of a car and pushed past a massive media scrum at Burwood Local Court on Monday morning.

Inside, his lawyer told a registrar the NRL player plans to plead not guilty to a charge of aggravated sexual assault-inflict bodily harm.

Police say he injured and raped a woman so violently she had to be taken to hospital.

It’s alleged he visited her Newcastle home on Grand Final night back in September after the pair connected on social media.

Hayne's parents along with manager Wayne Beavis supported him in court.

There wasn’t a spare seat as his barrister said: “For the benefit of those here Mr Hayne maintains his innocence and will be pleading not guilty.”

He’ll be back in court in February but won’t need to turn up.
