Police Operation Underway: Man Dead From Self-Inflicted Gun Shot Wound

A critical police investigation is underway after a man died from a self-inflicted gun wound in Sydney.

Police were called to a property on Ridge Road in Engadine at about 7 am on Friday morning following reports of a domestic situation.

Police believe shots were fired outside the home and a 56-year-old man suffered a minor gunshot wound to the forehead. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police also located an 81-year-old man as he tried to leave the property in a vehicle. When police tired to stop the man from leaving, he turned the firearm on them.

The then fired a shot and suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound to his neck.

The man died at the scene.

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Coroner will also provide a ruling to determine the man's cause of death once more information becomes available.
