Police Believe Woman Found Dead Outside QLD Motel Knew Her Attacker

Police believe a Queensland woman found dead in the carpark of a Fraser Coast motel knew her attacker.

Emergency services were called to the Maryborough City Motel about 5am Saturday following reports of a disturbance.

They found the 58-year-old woman's body outside the motel, with a crime scene quickly established and police beginning investigations into how the woman died.

Acting Detective Inspector Wade Lee said initial investigations suggested the woman knew her assailant.

"This is not a random attack," he told reporters.

"There are a number of witnesses who were at the motel at the time and they are assisting us with enquiries."

A 22-year-old male is assisting with investigations, police said in a statement on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Lee did not confirm how the woman had died, but said her death was not linked to a stabbing in nearby Hervey Bay on Friday.

Police have appealed to the public for information, in particular for anyone travelling in the area this morning who heard or saw anything suspicious.
