Man Kills Small Dog With Spanner During Home Invasion

Police are hunting an armed home invader after a violent robbery near in New South Wales. 

The man broke into the Farmborough Heights home at around 9pm on Saturday evening armed with a spanner, police said.

He entered the property and assaulted a 65-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man before turning on the home's dog.

Using the spanner, the man hit the dog, killing it instantly.

It is believed the man stole a small safe and cash box before fleeing the property on foot.

Emergency services were called to the property and both the man and the woman were treated by NSW Ambulance at the scene.

The man was transported to Wollongong hospital following the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
