32-Year-Old Identified As Woman Found Dead In Sydney Park

Police have identified Sydney woman Nicole Cartwright as the woman who was found dead in a park in Sydney's North Shore area last week.

It comes a week after police were called to the park in Hunters Hill after a council worker made the gruesome discovery at about 7:30 am on Wednesday October 3.

The Buffalo Creek Reserve became a crime scene as investigators tried to find evidence to piece together what happened to the woman, who was found in a line of trees near a children's playground.

Police today confirmed the victim as 32-year-old Nicole Cartwright, from Lansvale in Sydney's south-west.

She was last seen alive on the night of September 30 in an image captured at Museum Train Station, three days before her body was discovered covered under some leaves and bark.

“Investigators have been able to place Nicole on buses and at various railway stations between 27 and 30 September, but we are seeking information from then until she was found,” Detective Superintendent Scott Cook told reporters on Wednesday.

“We know that Nicole travelled by train from Bondi Junction to St Marys early on 29 September, and the following afternoon/evening (30 September), we have her at Strathfield, Central, Ashfield and then Museum Railway Stations."

Investigators believe her body may have been dumped at the reserve either late on Tuesday night or very early on Wednesday morning.

“While it is most likely her body was brought to the area under darkness, we are still urging motorists with dash-cam and travelling in that area at that time to provide us copies of their footage,” Cook said.

Police said Cartwright lived with her parents and had a wide circle of friends, adding that they were keen to speak with any of her associates who are yet to come forward to police.

“We’ve been liaising with her family, who last had contact with Nicole on 28 September, when she sent a photo taken at Maroubra,” Cook said.

“Of particular interest to us is any sightings or contact with Nicole after that time, and we are appealing for those people to contact us as soon as possible.”
