Triple J Presenter Gen Fricker Allegedly Indecently Assaulted While On Air
A man been charged with stalking with intent to cause fear, trespassing and common assault.
A man has been charged after allegedly gaining entry to the ABC Sydney studios and indecently assaulting a triple J presenter while she was on air.
Kieren Gallagher, 31, is accused of walking into the Ultimo building by tailgating a staff member last Wednesday, police said.
Gaining access to the live studio, he then allegedly approached presenter Genevieve Fricker, grabbing her and kissing her before fleeing the building.
Security guards were alerted, leading to his arrest on Monday. In an email to ABC staff, News Director Gavin Morris wrote onsite security had been boosted since the incident.
Gallagher appeared in court on Monday, charged with stalking with intent to cause fear, trespassing and common assault.
Court documents reveal he "appears to have significant mental health issues" and "became abusive" while appearing via video link. He has been detained while his mental health is assessed.
Fricker, a presenter and comedian, delivered a powerful speech about women's right to safety in the wake of the alleged rape and murder Eurydice Dixon earlier this year.
"I’ve seen people absolutely shattered by what has happened here, because she could have been any of us," she said.
"It’s infuriating to be told, ‘Oh, you need to look out for yourself better and you need to be more aware of the dangers’, when I think that women are so, so aware of the dangers.
“If you are a man and you see your friends making someone feel uncomfortable, if you see them making a remark to a woman or you see your mates on social media attack a woman or say something nasty about her: call them out.”
