60-Year-Old Man Attacked And Robbed While Searching For Pokemon

The man was forced to jump into a lake to escape his attackers.

A 60-year-old man has been attacked and robbed by a group of youths while searching for Pokemon at his local park in Melbourne.

The man was playing on his mobile phone at Ringwood Lake on Sunday when he was approached by a group of four or five men in their 20s while on the bridge at about 6:30pm, police say.

Police allege one of the men demanded the 60-year-old hand over his personal belongings before the group began punching and kicking the victim, after he handed over his phone and wallet.

The Ringwood East resident was forced to jump into the lake and swim to shore in order to escape his attackers.

He was later taken to hospital and treated for facial injuries, while the offenders fled the scene.

Sunday's incident comes just days after local police told the Maroondah Leader they would be stepping up patrols in the area after a rise in anti-social behaviour.

Police say they are working with the victim as investigations continue and are urging any witnesses who may have been at the lake at the time to come forward.
