'Wolf Creek' Actor John Jarratt Charged Over Historic Rape Allegation
Police allege he assaulted a young woman more than 40 years ago.
Australian actor John Jarratt has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney's east in the 1970's.
NSW Police allege Jarratt assaulted an 18-year-old woman at a property in Daintrey Place, Randwick in September 1976.
An investigation was launched after the women reported the assault to police in December last year.
Following inquiries, the 66-year-old actor was issued with a court notice yesterday.
Jarratt, who would have been 23 at the time of the alleged assault, has previously denied the allegations.
In November last year, a statement from the actor's talent agency Ignite Elite Artists said he "emphatically and completely denies the allegations of sexual assault."
“These allegations are completely unfounded and untrue," the statement said.
Best known for his portrayal of pyschopathic serial killer Mick Taylor in Wolf Creek, Jarratt has been in the entertainment industry for almost five decades.
He is due to appear in Waverley Local Court on October 10, 2018.
