Man Charged With Murder After Elderly Woman Killed

The man and woman were known to each other.

A man has been charged after an elderly woman was found dead following an incident at a home north of Brisbane.

Police said they were alerted to an "incident" at Mango Hill around 1pm on Thursday. Upon responding, officers found the body of a 75-year-old woman. A 50-year-old man, who police say was known to the woman, was found with serious injuries. The man was arrested and taken to hospital with injuries that police said they believed may have been self-inflicted.

On Friday, a  50-year-old man from the neighbouring suburb of Rothwell was charged with murder.

"Detectives attended the hospital this morning where the man was charged with murder. He is due to appear at a bedside hearing today," police said.

"The man and woman were known to each other."

In an initial statement on Thursday, police said "officers are not seeking any further suspects."

Neighbours of the home, on Topaz Drive, told Ten Eyewitness News that a woman and her son lived at the address.
