Suspicion surrounds a body that was discovered by the side of the road in Sydney's inner west about 10:30pm on Wednesday June 6.

The yet to be identified body was believed to be covered and was found by a passing motorist on Homebush Bay Drive, 200 metres north of Australia Avenue in Homebush.

Auburn Police Area Command have established a crime scene and forensics are examining.

An investigation has been launched in an attempt to identify the cause of death, with detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad assisting police.
