The RSPCA is desperately searching for the person who shot a plover bird with an arrow, leaving it impaled and mortally wounded.

The plover was found by Pelican & Seabird Rescue on May 22, in the Gold Coast suburb of Jacob Wells with an arrow through its body.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officers took the bird to the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital, but due to the severity of its injures, was euthanised on humane grounds.

RSPCA Chief Inspector Daniel Young said the horrific incident was being investigated, and requested the public's help.

“To deliberately harm an animal in this way is unacceptable. The plover sustained critical injures which sadly resulted in our veterinarian having to euthanise it on humane grounds,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we are no closer to identifying the culprit, so we are urging the public to come forward if they have any information that may assist with the investigation."
