In a statement, the charity said it was "devastated" by the loss of the "much loved and respected" actress.

"We are still processing the news we have heard today. Annalise has been a huge voice for suicide prevention in Australia," said CEO Brendan Maher.

“Nothing we have ever asked of Annalise was too much, she has stepped up time and time again to share our message, even when she was going through her own tough times.

“We couldn't have asked for a more genuine, kind and sincere spokesperson. Our team sends condolences to her family and friends at this devastating time."

In 2017, Braakensiek spent six weeks travelling Australia with R U OK? to take the charity's message into regional and remote areas.

"She was unpretentious, she was kind, she was generous, and we will miss her terribly," Maher said at a press conference on Monday.

Braakensiek starred in the hit TV show Fat Pizza as well as on the UK show Play Your Cards Right.

In recent years she made the move into fashion design, launching her own collections of jewellery, sleepwear and lingerie.

Tributes are pouring in for Braakensiek from those who knew her.

Rob Shehadie, who worked with her on Fat Pizza, paid his respects on Twitter.
