Two Dead After Car Veers Off Overpass And Into Dam

Two men have been killed after their car veered off an on-ramp in Melbourne's west and rolled into the water below.

Police and emergency services attended the scene in Altona North but were unable to retrieve the passengers.

Tragically, both men were discovered deceased inside the vehicle when it was pulled from the water on Sunday morning.

Friends and family members have laid flowers at the scene. Both men are yet to be formally identified.

Police believe the driver of the white Mercedes GLA 180 may have been speeding when it failed to navigate the Geelong-bound Princess Freeway entry ramp.

"It's very early days in the investigation but we do believe speed was a factor in the accident," leading senior constable Evan Brown said.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to assist with the investigation.

There have been 202 lives lost on Victorian roads in 2018, and police are urging people to drive safely through the busy Christmas period.
