All The Best Signs From The School Climate Strikes Around Australia

The controversial Strike 4 Climate Change has been criticised this week by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, but that didn't stop countless students from gathering in public squares nationwide.

'ScoMo sucks' was the chant that went up in Sydney, as thousands of students across the country walked out of classrooms in protest over climate change and environment policy.

"We do not support our schools being turned into parliaments... what we want is more learning in schools and less activism in schools," the PM said this week.

"Taking off school and protesting? You don't learn anything from that.... The best thing you'll learn about going to a protest is how to join the dole queue," Resources Minister Matt Canavan claimed.

The politicians' critiques had quite the opposite impact, judging from the turnout and the signs from some attendees.

Organisers claimed more than 5000 students had crammed into Sydney's Martin Place and assembled outside Melbourne's state parliament, with thousands more in nearly 40 rallies across Australia.

Nick Wray from 10 daily was out at the Sydney rally, reporting the demonstration had completely taken over the iconic city square.

"I love going to school and the strike has been exhausting, we're asking our politicians to simply do their job and protect our future," one young woman told the Melbourne rally.

Students nationwide have come prepared to the events, clutching signs and banners calling for action.
