The 'Harmless' Disabled New Father Was Stabbed To Death In Front Of His Girlfriend

After almost nine months police have made a breakthrough in the home invasion stabbing murder of 38-year-old disabled father Erol Tokcan.

10 News First has obtained CCTV vision of the dramatic arrest on Wednesday afternoon at a home in Whalan of Damien Dunn, 23.

The security vision shows police entering a garage before removing a man in handcuffs.

An elderly woman who lives at the address said she had no idea the accused was in her garage.

Two weeks ago Erol Tokcan’s distraught mother and three sisters made a heartfelt and desperate public plea to help find his killers.

Police allege Dunn was one of three men who forced their way into Tokcan’s Dharruk home in March, stabbing him to death in front of his girlfriend before the trio ran off down the street.

Dunn did not appear at his first hearing on Thursday at Mt Druitt court but a number of his supporters were there including his mother, all protesting his innocence.

Jake Westren, a lifetime friend of Dunn, was one of those supporters and said of his friend “he's a great human being, he's a good father... I don't know what’s going on and why he's getting charged with this but I know he hasn't done nothing".

Erol Tokcan was described by police as a “harmless man who was no threat to anyone”.

Mr Tokcan suffered a brain injury some years ago in a motorcycle accident, his family and police say he posed no threat to anyone.

Mt Druitt Crime Manager Detective Chief Inspector David Goddard said the assistance of the community was vital in this investigation.

“This was a violent attack, on a vulnerable man with a brain injury, within his own home. This attacked resulted in the death of this young father,” Goddard said.

Erol’s younger sister Fotash Tokcan said her brother was an 'adored uncle'.

“The arrest means a lot to our whole family. We are very grateful to the police, the media and the public for helping us” Fotash said.

“My brother had a serious disability and what happened to him was cowardly and he didn’t deserve this but we can’t bring him back. Now we just hope justice is served for my brother “

Police said their investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected.

Dunn will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on January 30.
