Metal Object Found In Banana Was Mental Health Related
It is not connected with the strawberry sabotage currently gripping Australia.
Earlier on Monday Queensland Police confirmed they were investigating an incident involving a "metal object" found inside a banana, after several incidences of sewing needles found inside strawberries.
Commissioner Ian Stewart confirmed police were actively investigating an incident, but did not give details about where the contaminated banana was found.
A Spokesman for the Premier said a person with a mental health issue put the object in the banana.
It comes after sewing needles were found in strawberries across several Australian states, prompting a mass recall of the product and one of New Zealand's two major food chains to stop stocking Australian products.
Health Minister Greg Hunt has ordered Food Safety Australia and New Zealand to investigate, while the Queensland government has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
It is believed the strawberries were contaminated by a disgruntled former employee.
