Fake Charities Exploiting Jarrod Lyle's Death In "Disgraceful" Scam

"Leave me alone."

Jarrod Lyle's grieving widow has been forced -- again -- to warn the public of potential scammers using her husband's name.

Brianna Lyle took to her husband's Instagram to warn of the fake account "jarrodchallenge" that was apparently approaching people for money.

"Yet another Insta account has appeared to take advantage of Jarrod's death," she wrote.

"If you have been contacted by jarrodchallenge I apologise for the nuisance.

"Please DO NOT give them any personal details or believe their claims.

"I hope this is not going to be an ongoing issue."

She ended her post with the hashtag #leavemealone.

"Absolutely disgraceful," one commenter wrote. "The words I want to use I won't out of respect to Jarrod's family. Bri has been through enough online scum."

"This is the lowest of the low," wrote another. "I'm sorry this keeps happening."

It comes less than two weeks after Briony was forced to warn of another scam account exploiting her husband's death.

"Unfortunately someone is taking advantage of our situation and Jarrod's passing," she said.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's ScamWatch warns that fake charities will try to take advantage of your genoristiy and compassion for others in need.

"Not only do these scams cost you money, they also divert much needed donatinos away from legitimate charities and causes," it said.

The warning signs include: an unknown 'charity' name, being asked to provide cash instead of cheques, being put under pressure to donate, and not receiving a receipt.

Lyle died earlier this month, age 36, after deciding to end treatment for myeloid leukaemia.

"My time was short," he said in his final message, delivered by Briony. "Hopefully it wasn't wasted."

A public memorial golf day will be held on September 27 outside The Sands Torquay golf club in Victoria.
