NSW Police have confirmed a man has died in a unit complex fire in Newtown, in Sydney's inner-west on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services responded to the fire at about 5.50am, and evacuated several people from the premises.

However the body of the man was found in one of the units. He has yet to be identified.

A crime scene has been established to determine the cause of the fire and a report will be prepared to the Coroner.
