Townsville residents have begun returning to their homes as flood waters across the city slowly begin to recede, revealing the full extent of the damage. The danger is far from over further south-west with a flash flooding alert being issued for residents of Hughenden, with the Flinders River expected to burst its banks on Wednesday.

Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir will learn his fate on Wednesday. He’s facing Victoria’s Racing and Disciplinary Board, a week after a police raid on his stable unveiled illegal electrical devices known as jiggers. Weir is facing a four-year ban from racing.

Nastasia Urbano was a famous supermodel in the 1980s, where she once earned a million dollars a year. Now at 57, Urbano is homeless and living on the streets of Barcelona, Spain. Her life changed when she married a man and had children with him. She claims she used her millions to fund their lifestyle, but eventually, she "left with nothing but the clothes on her back". She claims she spent her money in the way her then-husband wanted because she was in love with him. Now Urbano has no money and has been evicted from a number of homes after being unable to pay rent. She spends her time sleeping on between friends' sofas, bank foyers and the streets.

Police in Paris believe a deadly fire that ripped through a high-rise apartment block was deliberately lit. At least 10 people have been killed and 30 others injured. A woman in her 40s has been arrested.

A billionaire Chinese political donor has been stranded overseas after his application to become an Australian citizen was rejected. The suspected Chinese Communist Party influence agent is reportedly fighting to return to his $13 million Sydney mansion. He’s made almost $2.7 million in political donations over five years.

Close to 900 people who were medically transferred to Australia from Manus Island or Nauru, have reportedly never returned to the offshore processing centres.

The Prime Minister will today announce a $12 million funding boost for Australian athletes ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. $8 million of that will be spent on targeted assistance for para-athletes, the other $4 million for a new training and events centre at Essendon Football Club’s home base in Melbourne.

The NRL is talking to every player at every club in a bid to improve-off field behaviour. It comes after a string of serious incidents over the off-season. The most recent of these saw former Queensland Cowboy Ben Barba cop a life ban from the NRL after an alleged assault incident.
