The Real Story Behind The Toddler Walking Towards Armed Police With Her Hands Up

Footage has gone viral of a barefoot two year old walking towards armed police in Florida with her hands up.

Tallahassee officers staged a dramatic operation on Thursday following reports of a robbery at a nearby shopping centre. Staff at the store claimed the thief had a gun in his waistband.

Footage posted to Facebook -- that's since amassed more than 380K views -- shows a man in a bright orange t-shirt backing up towards police with his hands in the air, guns pointed straight at him.

A second man is then seen climbing out of the vehicle, also with his hands in the air.

The next 30-or-so seconds are the most shocking.

With police still aiming their firearms square at the ute, a tiny girl slowly slides out of the vehicle.

The person filming can be heard saying: "She's trying to get out, but she can't because she's so little.

"She is out! Oh, she's holding her hands up. Oh my God, look at that, Oh my God," she said.

The two-year-old follows the actions of the two men and walks straight towards the armed officers with her hands up in the air.

But it seems the facebook video doesn't paint the whole picture.

Body camera footage of the incident, later released by the City of Tallahassee Police Department, shows the officers were, in fact, comforting the child.

"You're okay, come over here sweetie, you're okay," one officer can be heard telling the girl.

"Sweetie, put your hands down, you're fine", he said.

The two men were arrested and later charged with theft, while the two-year-old girl and her one-year-old sibling, found still strapped into his car seat, were taken home by their mother.

A pellet gun was allegedly found in the back seat of a vehicle.
