A seven-year-old girl in India has taken her father to police after he broke his promise to build her a toilet. According to the BBC, Hanifa Zaara told police she felt "cheated" because her father has not done what he said he would. Her father told her if she topped her class at school, he would build her a toilet. "I have been topping my class since nursery," she wrote a police statement. "I am in the second grade now. And he is still only saying he will do it."

She also said she felt ashamed going to the toilet outside, in front of others, which is a common practice in the country. She presented the police with trophies and awards from school to legitimise her complaint and eventually, she won their support. District officials now plan to raise money to build more than 500 toilets in Hanifa's neighbourhood.
