The Little Mermaid Song Axed Amid Consent Concerns

A male a cappella group has pulled "Kiss the Girl" from its set list amid claims the lyrics helped promote "toxic masculinity"

For anyone in need of a re-cap, In The Little Mermaid the song is sung by Sebastian the crab as he encourages Prince Eric to kiss Ariel, who actually can't say a word because she traded her voice to become a human.

The Princeton Tigertones have performed Kiss the Girl for years.

The norm was to pull a female audience member up on stage to decide whether or not a man from the crowd could kiss her.

A journalist at a student newspaper wrote a column claiming the song helped promote toxic masculinity, was misogynistic and that too many women have been forced up on stage for unwanted encounters.

"I have seen a queer student brought on stage have to uncomfortably push away her forced male companion," Noa Wollstein, wrote.

"I have heard of unwilling girls being subjected to their first kisses. I have watched mothers, who have come to see their child's performance, be pulled up to the stage only to have tension generated between them and the kid they came to support."

The article made a massive impact. Not only was the song cut, Tigertone's President Wesley Brown issued an apology to anyone that was made to feel uncomfortable during performances.

The song joins a growing list of those now deemed inappropriate.

A radio station in Ohio decided to pull the well-known tune  "Baby It's Cold Outside" ahead of the Christmas period, because it is "no longer appropriate".

Radio presented Glenn Anderson slammed the move saying he didn't understand why the lyrics were "so bad" until he read them.

The 1944 tune featured lines including: "Say, what's in this drink?", "I really can't stay / Baby don't hold out" and "I ought to say no, no, no / Mind if I move in closer?" which has long been described as "creepy".

It's not just music that's been ruffling feathers recently, PETA has called for phrases like  'bringing home the bacon' and 'kill two birds with one stone' changed to 'bringing home the bagels' or 'feed two birds with one scone'.

It's in a bid to remove what they refer to as "speciesism" from their conversations.

Political correctness gone mad or understandable?

That's now a debate being had around the world, often.

What Do You Think?

Kiss the Girl

There you see her Sitting there across the way She don't got a lot to say But there's something about her

And you don't know why But you're dying to try You wanna kiss girl

Yes, you want her Look at her, you know you do It's possible she wants you too There's one way to ask her

It don't take a word, not a single word Go on and kiss the girl, kiss the girl

Sha la la la la la My oh my Looks like the boy's too shy Ain't gonna kiss the girl

Sha la la la la la Ain't that sad It's such a shame, too bad

You're gonna miss the girl Go on and kiss the girl, kiss the girl

Now's your moment Floating in a blue lagoon Boy, you better do it soon The time will be better

She don't say a word And she won't say a word Until you kiss that girl, kiss the girl

Sha la la la la la My oh my Looks like the boy's too shy Ain't gonna kiss the girl Sha la la la la la

Ain't that sad It's such a shame, too bad You're gonna miss the girl

Sha la la la la la Don't be scared You better be prepared Go on and kiss the girl

Sha la la la la la Don't stop now Don't try to hide it

How you wanna kiss the girl Go on and kiss the girl, kiss the girl

Oh, kiss the girl, kiss the girl La la la la, la la la la Go on and kiss the girl La la la la, la la la la Go on and kiss the girl

Sha la la la la la My oh my Looks like the boy's too shy Ain't gonna kiss the girl

Sha la la la la la Ain't that sad It's such a shame Too bad, you're gonna miss the girl

La la la la, La la la la Go on and kiss the girl Go on and kiss that girl!

La la la la, La la la la Go on and kiss the girl Go on and kiss the girl

Kiss the girl Kiss the girl Go on and kiss the girl!
