A man has died after he was struck by lightning in the state’s central west.

Just after 2pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to a sports ground in Geurie, about 30km from Dubbo, after reports a 53-year-old man was struck by lightning.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and assessed the man, but he died at the scene.

About 10 people die each year from lightning strikes in Australia, with a further 100 injured.

An Aussie is more likely to be hit by lightning in their lifetime than win the lottery.
