Aussies Reported Injured In German Bus Crash

A bus carrying 35 tourists from Australia, Canada and the United States has crashed into a truck filled with tyres in Germany.

Several  people have been seriously injured in the crash near Heidelberg, local media reports.

Early accounts suggest the bus drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with the truck.

Another local media outlet reported the coach was full of passengers aged in their 60s.

Five rescue helicopters and seven ambulances attended the "terrible scene" in the small southwestern town, a police spokesman said.

German Broadcaster SWR said a total of 35 people were involved in the accident, including the drivers of the bus and the lorry, and at least four people were in critical condition.

"Australian officials in Germany are making urgent enquiries with local authorities to confirm the identity and condition of any Australians involved in the bus incident near Heidelberg," the Department of Foreign Affairs said .
