Brekky Wrap: Man Charged With Kristie Powell Murder And Earth Needs Saving By 2030

A man has been charged with the murder of Wollongong mother Kristie Powell, whose body was discovered in her home, near her five-month-old son. Police said on Saturday they were looking to speak to a 29-year-old man in relation to her death. The man was arrested on Monday afternoon and charged with Powell's murder. He will appear before Maitland Local Court on Tuesday.

Significant action needs to be done to avoid disastrous levels of global warming including extreme drought, wildfires and floods. A new report issued by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reveals the planet will reach crucial heat levels by 2030 which will lead to unbearable conditions like heatwaves, hot summers and greater sea level rise. The report also says the planet is already two thirds of the way to reaching such heat levels and that emission reductions across the entire planet are vital.

The limo that crashed in New York state and claimed the lives of 20 people had recently failed a safety check, according to New York's governor Andrew Cuomo. The governor also revealed the driver of the vehicle didn't have the correct licence to be driving that type of car. The 17 people travelling in the limo were en route to a birthday party. The driver and two pedestrians were also killed.

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed the allegations of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh were  a "hoax" and "all made up" after previously saying he thought Dr Christine Blasey Ford was a credible source. Trump called the assault claims a ploy by the democrats to try and impeach him. The comments come after Brett Kavanuagh was confirmed by the Senate and later sworn in as a Supreme Court Judge.

Facebook is set to launch a new smart screen technology amid another data breach scandal. The Facebook Portal is a video chat technology that tracks people as they talk or move around a room. Users are also able to tap on the screen to focus on one person, even if someone else is talking. The new technology comes as Facebook is embroiled in yet another data breach, which is believed to have affected up to 50 million users.

While she's not known for sharing her political views, Taylor Swift has changed her tune backing two democratic candidates ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. In a lengthy Instagram post, Swift said she could not support candidate Marsha Blackburn who doesn't support the rights of women. Swift also added her support for gay rights in the post.
