Young Girl Dies In Horror Head-On Crash

The 10-year-old girl, a young boy and a woman were hit when an overtaking vehicle crashed into their car in Melbourne's Truganina.

A 10-year-old girl has died and a young boy and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash in Melbourne overnight.

Police have been told a Ford Territory overtook a Honda SUV and collided with a third vehicle -- a Ford Focus -- along Hopkins Road in the suburb of Truganina about midnight on Saturday.

The 10-year-old girl, who had been travelling in the Ford Focus, died at the scene. The female driver and a young boy were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries while a fourth male passenger suffered serious injuries.

The 41-year-old male driver of the Ford Territory, which then also collided with the Honda SUV, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Five people inside the Honda SUV were uninjured.

Police on Sunday are investigating the scene and the circumstances surrounding the crash, urging any witnesses to come forward.
