Bali Nine member Tac Duc Thanh Nguyen has died in hospital from cancer, the Indonesian Corrections office has confirmed. The Vietnamese-Australian citizen was serving a life sentence for his role in a plot to smuggle more than 8 kilograms from Bali to Australia in 2005. He was 34.

The Guatemala volcano death toll has has risen to 70 from 65, according to the emergency coordinator CONRED and hospital sources. The last victim to die was an eight-year-old boy with severe burns, who was due to be sent to the US for treatment.

The Miss America pageant will scrap the swimsuit competition and be more inclusive to women of all sizes, it announced Tuesday. The 97-year-old event will no longer be a pageant but a competition, with chairwoman Gretchen Carlson crediting the rise of the #MeToo movement as a catalyst for change.

The owner of a cargo ship that lost 83 containers off Port Stephens has apologised over the mess. Maritime Safety officials will greet the YM Efficiency when it docks in Sydney this morning.
