Holy Fashion Festivals -- Karl Lagerfeld Turns 85!
Let's hope Choupette the cat got him a card.
Pucker up and prepare for some air kisses!
Anyone who is anyone in the fashion industry will be quickly wrapping a gift today to celebrate Karl Lagerfeld's birthday.
Yes, the man with the coolest ponytail in fashion is turning the big 85 today. Here's a photo of him from 1984 to celebrate.
Lagerfeld, head of design at Chanel since 1983, will no doubt be sipping champers tonight with some very famous friends -- though as a rule he doesn't drink much at all. In fact, he doesn't each much either, after losing 42kg in 2001. He did it through a rigorous high protein, low fat diet and even brought out a book about it.
Here he is before the diet.
Before you ask, the designer isn't giving up work any time soon -- despite his advanced years -- and has already announced he will team up with Puma for a capsule range which is to be launched on October 19, 2018 to mark the 50th anniversary of Puma’s original and iconic suede sneakers.
He's a machine. A sewing machine.
Born on September 10, 1933 in Hamburg, Germany, Lagerfeld began his fashion life at Pierre Balmain and went on to design for fashion houses like Jean Patou, Chloe and Fendi before becoming big fromage at Chanel, as well as Fendi, and looks after his own array of labels.
In other words, bow down, he's truly the king of couture.
Of course he's not without controversy -- he's pro-fur, not afraid to criticise famous folk (he called Adele "a little too fat" and he said that Pippa Middleton should "only show her back", for instance) -- and has even said he'd marry his cat Choupette if it were legal.
(I mean, come on, who can resist those eyes...)
With his recent collabs with brands like Puma, ModelCo, Kaia Gerber -- KARLXKAIA (shop here) and his personal assistant Sebastien Jondeau with whom he joined forces on a curated menswear capsule that debuted at the Pitti Uomo trade show back in January, he's shown he has no intention of putting his cutting scissors away just yet... and while he may not be everyone's cup of herbal tea, he's certainly still a fashion force to be reckoned with.
Happy birthday Karl, here's to many more.
