The Duchess Of Sussex Meghan Markle Attends Her First Event As A Royal
And she's everything you could have hoped for.
The newly-minted Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped out for their first official event and they're clearly in full royal mode. On Tuesday May 22, just three days after tying the knot Prince Harry and his new bride Meghan Markle attended an event in honour of Prince Charles' 70th birthday.
The Duchess looked fresh-faced and flushed, her smile wide and her eyes sparkling. And who can blame her? She's stepped into a modern-day fairy tale and made it reality.
She's also clearly embraced the whole royal aesthetic -- that is to say sophisticated, chic and a touch demure. On this occasion she wore a pale pink-and-taupe silk-crepe Flavia dress from Goat. A glowing Meghan teamed that with a matching custom Philip Treacy pink hat, perched perfectly above her classic side chignon -- a style also favoured by her new sister-in-law Kate Middleton.
Her heels, sky high by the way, were by Tamara Mellon. Siren Pump in Blush to be exact.
Just like at the wedding, Meghan kept her makeup sheer and soft and let her beautiful skin show, even her freckles. It's the perfect look for her -- for many women frankly -- and we're looking forward to seeing the Meghan Markle effect, that is to say women worldwide skipping the foundation and embracing this pretty natural look instead.
Goat Fashion is a London-based womenswear label. It was founded in 2001 by Jane Lewis as a small range of tailored separates and knits using cashmere, wool and silk yarns. The brand is stocked by boutiques and stores predominantly in the UK. And the moment Meghan was photographed wearing it the label's entire site went down. Turns out a LOT of women want that dress.
The version Meghan was snapped wearing is slightly different from the fashion house's regular wool crepe dress which retails for $825. Meghan's version has been adjusted for her and the detailing at the wrists is personalised. Still, the site will be back up shortly and then you can snaffle your very own. In the meantime the label is available on other sites so you can always try your luck there.
The event, held at Buckingham Palace, honours Prince Charles’ patronages, military affiliations and charities, also paid tribute to first responders of the terrorist attack at Ariana Grande’s Manchester concert in May 2017. It wasa attended by Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker-Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, both of whom appeared to be close and affectionate with the new addition to the family.
Indeed, Meghan is so relaxed when with the family she did not hold back her giggles when her new husband Prince Harry interrupted his speech to swat a bee.
"Sorry," he said.
"That bee really got me."
Harry recovered his composure and his new bride did too. And then he continued.
"You have inspired William and I, and looking out here today it is clear to see that we are not alone,” Harry, 33, told the crowd at the garden party at Kensington Palace.
“You have created an incredible body of work that has and will continue to make such a huge difference to so many people’s lives both here and around the world. With that lady and gentlemen, please can I ask you to join me in wishing the Prince of Wales a very happy birthday, six months ahead of his birthday.”
