Princess Diana Would Have Loved Meghan Markle And Here’s Why
These two are more similar than you think.
Can you believe it’s been 21 years since the death of our one true icon Princess Di?
While the universally-adored Princess of Wales, unfortunately, didn’t have the chance to watch Prince William and Prince Harry grow into the strapping young lads they are today, we have no doubt she would have been proud of her boys.
With her youngest son Prince Harry having wed actress Meghan Markle in a fairy-tale wedding earlier this year, many have drawn comparisons between Diana and the Duchess of Sussex, with everyone from Naomi Campbell to Harry himself believing the Princess would have adored her new daughter in law.
"Oh, they'd be thick as thieves, without question. I think she'd be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know, so excited for me—but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends with Meghan," the Prince told InStyle.
Check out all these reasons why we think these two would get along fabulously.
They're both humanitarians
Diana was renowned for her charity work and at one point was a patron of over 100 charities.
She was also a big promoter of HIV and AIDS awareness at a time where the disease wasn't fully understood (remember the famous photo of Di shaking hands with an AIDS patient without gloves?).
In a similar vein, Meghan is known for her commitment to championing women's rights and is an advocate for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
They have the same sense of fashion
She was the most fashion-forward royal of her time, and even now Princess Diana's effortless style continues to be reflected in today's trends.
Prince William's wife Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge, seems to carry on the late Princess' style, so it's no surprise that her second daughter-in-law Meghan Markle is following suit.
In fact, there have been several instances in which Meghan looks as if to be paying homage to her mother-in-law with some almost-identical outfits.
They both had careers before marrying into royalty
Meghan Markle was an established actress prior to marrying into the Royal Family, with her most famous role obviously being Rachel Zane on hit series Suits.
While Diana's career wasn't in Hollywood, she actually worked as a kindergarten teacher in London's Pimlico district before marrying Prince Charles.
They were both 'rebellious'
While they weren't rebellious in the sense that they were seen falling over in the street outside of nightclubs, both Diana and Meghan both follow the beat of their own drum when it comes to royal protocol.
For example, despite the tradition for royal wedding rings to be custom made, a then 19-year-old Diana instead chose her band from a catalog.
When it came to her wedding to Prince Charles, unlike generations before her, Diana chose to abandon the royal wedding tradition of saying she would "obey" Prince Charles.
Decades later, Meghan followed suit during her wedding to Prince Harry. As well as this, she was the first divorcee to marry a royal in a church.
