Meghan Markle's Mum Meets The Royal Family
Next up -- tea with The Queen.
She may simply be a yoga teacher from Los Angeles but today Doria Ragland is one of the most famous people in the world -- preparing for the wedding of her daughter Meghan Markle to Prince Harry in Windsor on Saturday.
The 61-year-old -- now tipped to be walking her daughter down the aisle after it was confirmed Meghan’s father Thomas Markle won’t be attending -- jetted to the UK on Wednesday and spent the night at Kensington Palace before heading to Windsor for a full wedding rehearsal.
It was here she met members of her new extended family -- Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge and two of their three children, George and Charlotte, who also have roles in the wedding party.
She also spent time with Prince Charles and Camilla, London’s Telegraph calling the meeting a “jolly” encounter, as the group enjoyed a quiet moment in the middle of a busy day of meetings. The paper went on to say that Ragland “thoroughly enjoyed” the gathering, feeling welcomed by the Prince and Duchess.
She now just needs to meet the Queen -- no pressure! -- and is expected to sit down with her today for afternoon tea joined by both Meghan and Harry.
Meghan has often spoken of her mother's influence in her life -- revealing it is Doria who has inspired her humanitarian spirit. She told Glamour magazine: ‘My mum’s a yoga instructor, but she does social work, as well, and she works specifically with the geriatric community.
‘For me to watch this level of life-long sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time, my mum has always been a free spirit.
‘She’s got dread locks and a nose ring. She just ran the LA Marathon.
‘We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support. That duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend.’
Meanwhile the bride-to-be was photographed on Thursday with Prince Harry, being driven down Windsor Castle’s Long Walk to undertake final rehearsals for their wedding on Saturday. In a heartfelt statement released just hours earlier, Ms Markle asked for her father to be given “space” to recover after he contacted her to tell say he would not be able to come to the wedding.
