Awesome Celebrities Who Adopted Their Dogs

Our favourite animal-loving rescue parents.

Anyone can own a dog, but it takes a special type of person to adopt one. A very loving and caring person. Someone who would put the needs of their 'fur baby' before their own. You know what I'm saying?

While we've definitely seen a change in attitude when it comes to adopting puppers from shelters -- especially with celebs like Ryan Reynolds, Zac Efron and Margot Robbie using their names to fight for animal welfare -- we still need to do more.

In the lead up to World Dog Day on May 19, we urge you to adopt, don't shop. Let's take a look at some adorable pups and their proud celebrity parents.

Ryan Reynolds and Baxter

The hunky actor hadn't planned to adopt a dog the day that he found Baxter the golden retriever at a Houston animal shelter. He was actually there looking for a dog for his friend. But after locking eyes with the pup, Ryan simply couldn't leave him behind. And the pair have been best buddies ever since. Aww!

Chris Hemsworth and Sunny

It's hard to image that Chris Hemsworth -- aka Thor the God of Thunder -- would have a softer side, but judging by his Instagram feed he sure does. The actor frequently shares pics of his lovable canine companion Sunny -- the fluffy dog he and his wife, Elsa Pataky, adopted back in 2014.

Todd McKenney and Nancye Hayes

When he's not singing and dancing on stage or screen, Todd McKenny is advocating for retired greyhound adoption. The soon-to-be Rocky Horror Show star has already rescued two dogs of his own. Here the actor welcomes his most recent adoption, Nancye Hayes.

Amanda Seyfried and Finn

Amanda met her adopted dog Finn while working on the set of HBO series Big Love. And it was love at first sight. The actress, who is now a passionate Animal Society ambassador, says more people need to adopt. "It's crazy how many animals don't have homes," she told Today. "[Finn] changed my life. I'm obsessed with him. I'm don't remember my life before him!"

Zac Efron and Chappelle

Zac Efron recently stepped in to save a dog from death row and took her home. But it's not the first time the star of Baywatch and High School Musical has rescued a dog. Back in 2014, he adopted another gorgeous pup with his then-girlfriend Sami. As far as we're concerned, he's definitely the Greatest Showman!

Kristen Bell and Muppet

Kristen might be the star of Disney's Frozen but she's definitely not frosty at heart. The star is an outspoken animal advocate who frequently reminds people to #AdoptDontShop. Taking to social media, the actress shared a pic of Muppet, an adorable rescue from Eastwood Ranch Foundation -- a shelter that's known for its high kill rates.

Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehman and Bunny

After a rather unfortunate start to life, Bunny the staffy cross' luck turned around when she was finally adopted by colourful comedian and regular panelist on The Project, Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehman. Now Bunny is living the high life as pampered pooch and older sister to little human Laddie.

Liam Hemsworth, Tani and Dora

Following in the footsteps of his animal advocate girlfriend Miley -- who coincidentally has a whole gang of rescued animals -- Liam Hemsworth is the passionate rescue parent of two adopted dogs: a brown pit bull called Tani (pictured) and an adorable labradoodle called Dora.

Margot Robbie and Boo Radley

Paying homage to the literary classic To Kill a Mockingbird, Margot Robbie named her adorable rescue puppy after one the most iconic characters in American literature, Boo Radley. She took to social media to share pics of the event. And our hearts simply melted!
