Meghan Markle's Father To Undergo Heart Surgery And Won't Attend The Royal Wedding
An update: Meghan Markle's father will not be attending the wedding after all.
Yesterday we reported that Meghan Markle's father will not be attending the royal wedding on Saturday May 19.
Word is today is that Thomas Markle will be undergoing heart surgery within the next 24 hours and will therefore not fit to travel to the UK, let alone attend his daughter's wedding to Prince Harry.
"They [doctors] will go in and clear blockage, repair damage and put a stent where it is needed," he told TMZ.
It's a complete turnaround from yesterday when it was reported that he received texts from Meghan in which she said she loved him and was concerned for his health. TMZ reported that at that stage Markle Sr was still clinging to the hope that he would be able to walk Meghan down the aisle, but has accepted it's all but impossible given the upcoming surgery.
For those who haven't been following just seven days ago it was confirmed that Meghan's father Thomas Markle Sr would be at the wedding at St George's Chapel in Windsor on Saturday. Not only that, but at a press briefing on May 4 Kensington Palace confirmed, "Mr. Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle of St George's Chapel. Ms. Markle is delighted to have her parents by her side on this important and happy occasion."
But in the early hours of May 15 the news site TMZ reported that Markle Sr would no longer be attending the wedding after a scandal erupted around his allegedly attempting to sell photos of himself in order to cash in on Meghan's newfound royal status. He is also said to have suffered a heart attack six days ago.
A reference to an official statement from Kensington Palace is going viral on social media and has been picked up by a variety of media outlets, but the Palace itself is yet to confirm the statement.
The scandal has been mentioned worldwide with both the professional media and social sharing platforms lighting up today with various theories, commentaries, thoughts and feelings.
UK media commentator Piers Morgan took to Twitter saying it was safe to assume that 'all hell had broken loose'. He also shared his own column in which he declared that Meghan's 'foolish father has wrecked her big day'.
If this story is indeed true, Meghan is now a bride-to-be without an escort to walk her down the aisle on her big day. Many have suggested that her mother yoga instructor Doria Ragland (pictured in main image with Meghan) will step into the role.
According to TMZ, Thomas Markle Sr has not heard from his daughter since he announced that he would not be attending the wedding after all, but that he thought Doria would be a 'good choice'.
As the big day draws closer the royals are drawing Meghan in, attempting to protect her from the scandal/s caused by her various family members. Her half-sister Samantha Markle has written a tell-all book -- The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister -- which is about to hit stores and now this.
To add to the drama, it's also been reported that a large group of Markle family members who were not invited to the wedding have arrived in London.
Perhaps the royal family is the one that Meghan has needed all along.
