Shane Crawford Reveals He Almost Left Hawthorn For Port Adelaide

The Port Adelaide captaincy and a share in the local Macca's. It was almost too good to refuse.

Hawthorn premiership player and Brownlow Medallist Shane Crawford has made a stunning admission on the set of I'm A Celebrity... Get me Out Of Here!

The midfielder played all of his 305 career games with the Hawks, but as he told fellow contestant Natasha Exelby, he almost left the club just a few years into his career when Port Adelaide dangled a very enticing carrot in front of him.

"I was offered to go to Port Adelaide when I was probably three years in [to my AFL career]," he said.

"Port Adelaide were just starting and they said 'you'll be the capt of Port Adelaide, we're going to give you a five year contract, we're going to give you a share in a McDonald's' and I'm like 'whoaaaaa'.

"I was like 'oh sh-t, I should be leaving really'. And I should have left, but I just couldn't."

Later in his career, Crawford was again approached -- this time by the Sydney Swans.

"I was going to go to Sydney for my last four tears. I was so over Hawthorn 'cos we were changing coaches and whatever, so I met with Sydney and I virtually agreed to go.

"I was like 'yep, I need to go. I need to walk away from all the leadership stuff. I need to just concentrate on myself and finish enjoying footy, and I was really excited.

"Then Sydney won the grand final about a month later and I said 'I'm not going'."
