"The secret’s out... I’m joining the cast of The Hills," Barton posted to her 'gram today. "When MTV approached me with the chance to be a part of the reality show that was inspired by The OC, it felt like the perfect opportunity for an irresistibly inviting new chapter," she added.

Barton was catapulted to fame after landing the role as Marissa Cooper in hit series The O.C, which premiered in 2003 and wrapped up in 2007. The massive popularity of the show later went on to be the inspiration for MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which in turn led to the spinoff The Hills in 2006.

And while Barton has signed on to the reality show’s reboot, fans shouldn’t expect an O.C. reunion any time soon, as she has previously said that she would "probably not" want to reunite with her former castmates ever again.

"It's something I came so close to not doing," she told the U.K.'s Metro in 2014. "I had a really great thing with film," she said at the time. "People say be grateful for what you have, but it [is] certainly not the kind of thing I was expecting it to be …I've kind of seen it all."

MTV first announced the highly-anticipated reboot in August at the VMA’s, where stars of the reality show had reunited on the red carpet for the occasion.

The show’s reboot will reportedly follow the cast members along with their family and new friends as they navigate life eight years on from the series finale in 2010.

The Hills: New Beginnings is set to premiere in 2019.
