Chelsea Peretti Announces She's Leaving Brooklyn Nine-Nine
It looks like we'll be seeing a lot less of the world's sassiest civilian administrator, Gina Linetti.
The actor who plays Gina, Chelsea Peretti, announced on Twitter this week that she wouldn't be returning to Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a full sixth season, leaving room for her character's potential return.
"That doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back," Peretti tweeted of her departure adding, "winky face emoji, heart emoji. I want to thank you for the hours you spent watching Gina be Gina: confident, idiotic-but-smart, pithy, and infused with rhythm and cell-phone radiation."
She then poked fun at Emmy Rossum's recent announcement that she was leaving the series Shameless.
In the re-posted statement Peretti bolded the parts she felt most relevant which included grabs like "wonderfully written" and "I taught Emma to shave her legs".
Brooklyn Nine-Nine showrunner Dan Goor also tweeted out a (slightly more) serious statement that wasn't written by Emmy Rossum but did touch on Peretti's departure.
"While it's sad to see a member of the family leave," Goor's statement reads, "we are so proud of Chelsea and excited for what she does next."
Nine-Nine was cancelled by Fox earlier this year, but after a massive fan outcry, NBC rescued the series the very next day, greenlighting a sixth season. The fifth season dropped on Netflix in Australia last week.
Needless to say, the impassioned fanbase was shocked and heartbroken to hear of the series regular's departure.
While no release date has been set yet, Peretti will feature at least in-part in the upcoming sixth season of the series.
