Modern Family Creator Says 'Significant Character' Will Die In Season 10
Co-creator Christopher Lloyd revealed details of what could be the show's final season.
Following news that Modern Family’s upcoming tenth season would likely be the popular series’ last, co-creator Christopher Lloyd has dropped the bombshell that we're set to see a “significant character” die.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he revealed that the famous fam will be “handling some bigger life events” in season 10, which will be premiering in the US later this month.
"We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.”
While he remained mum on exactly which character we’ll be tearfully farewelling, he did reveal that it would be a “significant character on the series.”
“[The death] will be a moving event -- and an event that has repercussions across several episodes,” he added.
When pressed for a general idea about what we’ll see next season, he said:
“There is a significant change in the dynamics of the family that people maybe thought was going to happen at some point down the line that is happening sooner than expected.”
In regards to whether the show was confirmed to be ending, last year Lloyd told Deadline that season 10 of the show – which started in 2009 – was generally planned to be the last.
“Our original goal was to just stay on the air,” he told Deadline in August 2017. “After awhile though, we felt we may be in control of our own fate, and 10 sounded like a nice round number.”
