MasterChef's Bloody Brunch Battle Sent Brendan To The Hospital
After cutting his hand on a bottle of olive oil Brendan was forced out of the team challenge.
On Wednesday's episode of MasterChef Nigella Lawson set the team challenge for the week.
Splitting the contestants into two teams of ten, each team took control of a café to do service for a brunch sitting.
You know brunch right? It's casual, it's fun, there's often some smashed avocado on sourdough (sometimes cocktails) and good Instagram opportunities. Then there's blood gushing out of someone's hand.
Okay maybe it wasn't your typical brunch session but during the challenge Brendan Pang tripped with his hands full of ingredients, and accidentally cut his hand open on a bottle of olive oil.
Looking shaken as he walked back into the pantry asking for his teammate Michelle to get a nurse, he was still holding his other ingredients. It didn't take long for the 24-year-old to realise it wasn't just a small cut and he was going to need urgent help.
But watching Brendan, it wasn't his hand he was so concerned about but the fate of his team, and the consequences his injury would have on his time left in the competition.
"I'm upset," he said as a nurse bandaged him up, "I'm really frustrated. I feel like I've let the team down".
"I don't want my team to go into elimination just because I've cut my hand."
MasterChef judge George Calombaris tried to console the young chef telling him, "If you’ve got to go to hospital then you’ve got to go to hospital, your well-being is more important to us than you finishing a challenge."
Nigella offered her own special brand of care with the sweetest Nigella response ever asking, "Have you been given a cup of tea or something?"
Brendan has been a consistent strong performer in the competition so far and fans were shocked to see him falter in such a painful way.
Hopefully Brendan made a speedy recovery and will be back in the kitchen in no time.
