The 5 Acts Guaranteed To Go Off At Laneway Festival 2019

It's that time of year again!

Celebrating 15 years of bringing some of the best live acts to Australia and New Zealand, the 2019 Laneway Festival is set to be an absolute cracker, boasting one of the best lineups we've seen.

Not only will we see some of the hottest international acts such as Denzel Curry, Jon Hopkins and Parquet Courts hit the stage, we'll also be #blessed with performances by homegrown heroes Gang of Youths, Courtney Barnett and Cosmo's Midnight -- just to name a few.

With 53 percent of this year’s lineup consisting of Australian acts and the rest from across the pond, there's a WHOLE lot of different sounds to feast your ears on.

If you're having a hard time sussing out who to check out, some of the Laneway veterans in the 10 daily team picked some of their fave artists to check out this year.

Baker Boy

Straight outta Arnhem Land, Baker Boy -- real name Danzal Baker -- is one of Australia's fastest-rising hip-hop artists.

Not only is the inspirational 22-year-old a talented rapper, dancer, actor and graffiti artist, but he's also keeping Indigenous language alive by rapping in his first language Yolngu Matha -- in fact, he's the first ever Indigenous singer to rap in-language.

"Australian hip-hop has its Kendrick!" 10 daily Video Editor Myles said. "He's an amazing performer with staying power, and he's got an epic future ahead of him." Our social media editor Lawrence agreed, adding, "He's awesome! Indigenous music really needs to be front and centre at festivals."

Gang of Youths

You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who isn't a fan of this five-piece indie group. And it's easy to see why -- in just 18 months the Aussie rockers managed to nab a #1 ARIA Chart debut, four ARIA Awards, three spots in the Top 10 of triple j’s Hottest 100, and smash ticket sales records at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre and Melbourne’s Forum Theatre.

"I saw them two years ago at Laneway and they absolutely blew my mind," Myles said. "They had the audience in the palm of the hands, was truly one of those life-changing gig experiences."

It'll also be the group's last Aussie show for a very long time, so definitely don't miss it.

Mitski

Japanese-American songstress MITSKI has been described by Iggy Pop as "probably the most advanced American songwriter that I know,” so you know that's saying something!

The extraordinarily talented artist, whose music features a beautiful mish-mash of genres, has even gained a fan in Lorde, who invited her to open her Melodrama tour last year.

Oh, she also has a fan in our boy Myles, too, who said, "I love her music! She's an amazing songwriter who I think has hit her stride recently."

G Flip

Melbourne-based producer, singer and songwriter Georgia Flipo has been popping TF off over the past year, following the release of her debut single "About You" on triple j Unearthed.

"She is just so talented! Drumming and singing her heart out, would love to see her live," our social slayer Lawrence said of the talented muso.

She's already performed at SXSW and UK's The Great Escape, and judging by her performances there, her Laneway debut is set to be an absolute banger.

Parquet Courts

Fresh off the back of their new album Wide Awake!, New Yorkers Parquet Courts are returning to Laneway to bring us the latest in their fresh AF danceable rock music that's guaranteed to have the crowd going off.

Partyboy/video editor Myles concurs, "They're such a fun band, I saw them a few years back and last year's album was fantastic."
