Ariana Grande's New Song Drops Tomorrow And It's All About Denial

We're still processing the emotional complexity of "thank u, next" but Ariana Grande's new track is apparently much darker.

Grande has been dropping hints on social media about her newest single -- which shares a title with John Lennon's 1971 hit, "Imagine".

Except instead of imagining world peace, Ari is imagining what might have happened if certain relationships of hers hadn't ended.

In a cross-platform post -- a Twitter draft posted sideways to Instagram stories -- Grande explained that tracks from her new album mourn the "failed yet important, beautiful relationships in my life".

"...for those of you asking about imagine: I would say if 'thank u, next' = acceptance... 'imagine' = denial," she said of her musical clues.

"Hope that makes sense," she added, sounding like a kind high-school English teacher, helping you understand an esoteric poem. There are truly not many Billboard #1 artists that show this kind of commitment to providing a live Cliffs Notes companion to their music.

Grande has also helpfully provided a countdown clock on Instagram so you can go and set your alarm immediately for the "Imagine" release.
